description
After a career spanning twenty-five years, versatile composer-cellist Vincent Courtois has become one of the essential artists on the current musical scene.
In this new work, L’Imprévu, he invites us to join him on a finely-honed, sensual journey along paths of almost secret desires that gradually become our own.
The listener will perhaps be on edge at times here when certain stages of the album unfold, each like a new story whispered into our ear.
From the first few seconds, the soulful music of Vincent Courtois’s cello, beautifully caught by Gérard de Haro, invites us to follow the musician towards this unknown destination, bound with hope as the music continues to unfold in such unexpected ways.

For over fifteen years now, Gérard and Vincent have recorded various projects together (records, theatre and film music). They both had the idea of a solo recording for La Buissonne but never actually got round to making it come true. One day during another session, the project slipped into its righful place amongst the concrete plans they both had.
Faithful listeners already aware of Vincent’s great talent for improvisation (and many other aspects of his style) will be delighted to discover this album, largely dedicated to composed music, including orchestral pieces here and there to mark the change and create balance of rhythm as the journey advances and the route changes…
And as we pass through the mist-covered landscapes and flaming splendours of nature expressed by Vincent Courtois’ generous bowing and intimate pizzicato, an elegant portrait of the artist gradually emerges too.
