As the title of this new opus says : there is another path . The one Andy Emler offers tells stories.
Most of the compositions are “suites“ going through differents climats, opening chapters where appear, carried by moving ostinatos, new characters, themes and refrains
These are the Andy’s compositions, but it is the trio that plays and develops this music.
Three distinct characters who, with one step, trace this other path of a jazz that is never “jazzy”.
With "Mess around the mood" or "drum habits die hard" we are in the Ellington suites or the concept albums of the seventies, Led Zepplin, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and others.
A POP spirit inhabits these titles.
The music here takes the time to be, to breathe, to choose different paths.
Through suspensions pretending to doubt, through the power of each musician asserting itself at every moment.
A few short pieces: "There is our way" are like scents or colors that the listener can pursue at will, letting them resonate and prolong the time before the next track.
