"It sounds, it storms out, it gushes, it whispers. Like with Mingus, it explodes, it growls and it liberates. This is the MegaOctet: a little more than a small group, a little less than a big band. The wisest, the craziest of inhabited worlds “ FRANCIS MARMANDE
Nearly 30 years after its birth, Andy Emler's MegaOctet is still this "laboratory of the most beautiful daring enterprises” and a collective of musicians transcending the modes and whose virtuosity and generosity have little equivalent. Two years after
Obsession 3, a record with constraints controlled by the German radio and widely acclaimed by criticism, A moment for ... once again honors the eight virtuosos who have been serving this extraordinary music for 10, 20 or 30 years
This new album is brought to perfection by the beauty of the gesture and the energy of its exceptional composer Andy Emler. The mixed energies of these nine friends form a sensitive and enormous machine with nine souls that magnifies the writing of Andy Emler.
The new repertoire, composed by Andy Emler, finds its origins in the idea of suspending time in order to question ourselves on our social and cultural environment. The compositions are music reflections on human relationships at the beginning of the twenty first century (with Move in ... or Move out ... if), an observation: "we must react, and quickly" (with Stand up and ... blow).
In the piece of music Flight back, Andy Emler invites us to welcome the other, wherever he or she comes from, and not to reject him or her. This record alerts the listener about the importance of remaining curious and altruistic and not suspicious or withdrawn, with Dirty Mood. In short, in his compositions Andy Emler invites the listener to take A moment for ... a moment to reflect with discernment, to question the norms and formats established by our society and find the right way. The clever mix of written and improvised music challenges the listener both by its weighting and its volubility.
A moment for ... is also the opportunity to find the particular universe of Andy Emler’s compositions, in which each piece of music sounds and echoes with the musical universe of the high level performers of the MegaOctet: Guillaume Orti, Philippe Sellam, Francois Verly, Claude Tchamitchian, Eric Echampard, Laurent Dehors, Laurent Blondiau and François Thuillier.
